10 Things they don’t tell you about staying fit

Whenever you research losing weight, you find the same things everywhere. You probably know it all by heart by now, i sure as hell do.

The thing is, there are some things that that sort of advice doesn’t tell you, mostly about HOW to do it.

1. It takes luck as much as will. The fact is, more often than not, you need a few lucky coincidences in order to ‘eat healthyer food’ and ‘work out more’, coincidences like not having a fast-food on your way to work, or having time to leave early and walk instead of drive. If you can, try to MAKE these coincidences happen.

2. don’t be converted, be angry. It’s easy to go out with your boyfriend who has a craving for a double cheezburger and mess up all your hard work. Don’t let his whining get to you, make yours get to him instead. who knows, you might even improve his lifestyle while youre at it.

3. Use peer pressure on yourself. You know how friends can influence you, right? Here’s a little trick: tell them you’re vegan. Make a big deal out of animal protection and how proud you are to be vegan, and you’ll never have the guts to eat meat while youre out with them ever again. That is one easy way to use peer pressure on yourself, i did that over 4 years ago and am still a happy healthy vegan.

4. Find your walking pleasure. for some people it’s having good company, but that just makes me want to sit down for a coffee. For me, it was music: i borrowed an mp3player and put all my favorite music on it, and walking just became a whole lot better. Haven’t managed to return it yet, tho *blushes*… :)

5. NO, you don’t HAVE to work out like a bodybuilder. All you have to do is have fun: having fun burns calories. walk with your friends, dance a lot, and be fresh and silly.

6. Eating less sucks. Let’s be serious, we all like our foods, we all have favorites which we can eat till the end of time, and not eating them just makes us angry and moody. I’m moody enough as it is just having a period and people around me, i don’t need food-moods too. So what i do is start being picky: i never eat ONE single thing i don’t like, but i indulge in high energy veggies and fruits, since i love them anyway. The thing about this is finding your own pace.

7. you will crash. If you push yourself too much, and exert yourself a lot one day without getting enough energy intake, you will crash. In my case it happened when i came home at 7 in the evening after very very VERY long walks and sat in bed for 5 minutes. 5 minutes later it was 7 in the morning, and i had been out cold all night, dressed and half-sitting up in bed. ouchy.

8. YES, you will feel better! The most surprising thing is that after a while of controlling what you put in, you will feel much much better. It really does happen, even mother after being on a diabetic diet for months started feeling much better. You might even start feeling proud of yourself for not killing animals if you decide to go vegan.

9. The best workout is a new dog or a new boyfriend. Walking a dog for a few hours a day will burn calories like nobody’s business, but for that you need to get a muscle dog like a pitbull. Also, a new boyfriend usually means increased activity.. yey!

10. You might not make it, and it’s ok. It isn’t a failure to give up when something doesn’t work. You can if you want to, but don’t HAVE to lose weight. Beauty isn’t much anyway, it goes away after a little while, and then all you’re left with is your amazing mind. Sometimes, the best workout for the future is reading a book!
